Obituary

Roumay Olivier Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Roumay was the son of Roumay Olivier Sr. and Edith Olivier. He spent his formative years attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where he served as an altar boy, nurturing his faith and sense of community.

Roumay proudly served his country in the Navy, where he honed his skills in underwater welding and pipe fitting during the aftermath of the Korean War reconstruction and cleanup efforts. Following his honorable discharge, he relocated to San Francisco, California, where he worked in transportation. It was there that he met the love of his life, Hattie, whom he married before returning to Lake Charles to be closer to their families.

An avid outdoorsman, Roumay found joy in fishing, crabbing, riding horses, and enjoying trail rides. He also enjoyed cooking for his family giving Hattie a rest from preparing meals on the weekends and after work. However, his true happiness stemmed from being surrounded by his cherished family and friends, sharing in the simple pleasures of life.

Roumay is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Hattie Olivier, and his children: daughters Renae Brownlee and Sandra Russel, his sons Roumay Olivier III, Schuyler Ray Olivier, and Michael Dion Olivier. He will also be dearly missed by his beloved goddaughter, Saundra Tate, and his son-in-law, Dwight Brownlee, and Daughter-in-laws Shavon Olivier, Tammara Olivier, and Devin Olivier.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter to his cherished grandchildren: Christopher and Anthony Heard; Jo'Nelle Brownlee Arlan, Aubree, Aiyahna, Sydney, Simone, Maddox, Marleigh, Mila, and Dylann Olivier; Skyler Captain; Jasmine Johnson; and Kevin Russel.

Roumay was preceded in death by his parents, Roumay and Edith Olivier, his sisters Betty Cook and Shirley Cole, and his beautiful daughter, Eboni (Olivier) Perkins, and her son, Hunter Perkins.

.Roumay's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
