In need of another Angel, on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, God decided to call one of his most
beloved sons home.
Roy Anthony Rosamore, 90, the son of the late Peter Rosamore and Lena Woods Rosamore, was
born on June 3, 1927 in Lake Charles, LA. Roy was born a twin to Leroy Rosamore, and together they
were named the first African-American twins born in Lake Charles at St. Patrick's Hospital. Roy was
baptized at an early age at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
On June 7, 1953 he married the love of his life Bessie Ray Rosamore in Lake Charles, LA. He was
blessed with eight children.
He was part of the Civil Defense which was considered the first type of Marshal Enforcement in the
Lake Area. He later went on to work at PPG Industries where he retired in 2002 after working 32
years.
His hobbies included drinking coffee (especially with his twin), fishing, watching baseball, talking
about Buicks, listening to Blues Music, and spending time with his pet monkeys and possums (his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren). Roy had a welcoming spirit. He loved to talk to people and
made them feel comfortable around him. He was gentle and kind to everyone he came in contact
with. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and the world's greatest grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four children, Phyllis Marie Rosamore, Promise Darrell
Rosamore, Willie Ray (Anna) Rosamore, and Anthony Lee (Elizabeth) Rosamore; one brother,
Willie Woods; one sister, Rosalie (Sis) (Clarence) Ceasar; mother and father in law, Rosalie (Promise)
Johnson and brother-in-laws, L. J. Johnson and Johnnie Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving devoted wife Bessie Ray Rosamore; children, Johnny
Ray (Linda) Rosamore, Larry (Abby) Rosamore, Carolyn (Joseph) Rosamore Thierry, and John
(Tamika) Rosamore; grandchildren, Katrina, Kesha, Kellee, James (Tonya), Sherie, LaKechia, Marco,
Sherod, Sherome, Desiraye, Raychelle (Kendrick), Brandi, Phyllis (Kedric), Donovan, Enjoli, Lloyd,
Shay, Jonathan (Ashley), Brandon, Duon (Brandney), Brittany, Shade, Crystasia, Briana, Mariah,
Malika, Nokia, Cinaya, and Sage; 52 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; one brother,
Leroy (Josephine) Rosamore; sister-in-laws, Mary Lou (Alvin) Hanchette, Norma Jean (Melvin)
Cotton, Loria (Edward) Woods, Gloria (George) King; brother-in-laws, Linton (Rose) Johnson,
Rodney (Ethel) Johnson, and Cooper Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
