Ruth Mae Gobert was born to Roosevelt and Cecilia Gallow Gobert on May 2, 1941, in Glenmora, Louisiana. Ruth was the 5th of 9 children born. Ruth was baptized at St. Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice, Louisiana, and was a current member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion as an adult.

Ruth also attended CARC for 32 years, where she enjoyed working in the workshop and attending all events the center planned, especially the Mardi Gras Ball.  Ruth loved to dance and hum to the songs because she didn't quite know the words. She also loved going to the casino with her sister Lula, which was the highlight of her day. She never met a slot machine she couldn't beat. Each pull of the arm or push of the button was exciting for her and if she won, it was just icing on the cake.

Ruth lived with her sister and caregiver Lula Guillory, whom she affectionately called Lou Mae, she lived with Lula for the past 42 years. Lula lovingly cared for her sister Ruth, as if she were her own child, though they were only 4 years apart in age. The two of them were inseparable, when you saw one, you saw the other, they came as a package deal. Taking care of Ruth was Lula's greatest gift to her sister and she did a fantastic job. Everyone who knows them knows, that Lula loved Ruth and took very good care of her. The separation will be very hard on Lula, but she knows life must go on and that God has chosen Ruth to be one of his Angels. Ruth's presence will be sorely missed around the house, it was just the two of them.

Ruth peacefully passed away on October 15, 2023, at a Houston Hospital. Ruth was deeply cherished by her family and will be missed by all, especially her sister/caregiver Lula. The nursing staff at Encompass Rehabilitation Center in Houston who cared for Ruth after her fall, were deeply saddened by her passing, as they had grown very fond of her. As they all said, they will never forget Ms. Ruth, she left a lasting impression.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt, and Cecilia Gobert; her brothers, Joseph, Octave, Chester, and Jimmy Gobert; and two sisters, Rose Gobert, and Evelyn Milburn.

Ruth is survived by her sisters, Theresa Reed of Eunice, Louisiana, and Lula Guillory of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
