Sis. Nixon was a faithful member of Moss Street Church of God in Christ under the pastorate of the late Supt. James John Davis, She was an active member of the Senior Choir. The church was later renamed Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ where she remained faithful under the pastorate of the late Supt. Ivanhoe Terry, and current Pastor Michael Cuba Jr, renamed Saints Cathedral Church of God in Christ. She enjoyed going to her Sunday School Class - Lovely Ladies, where she became the hospitality queen of the class. Her devotion to God and His church never wavered, even as her health became unsteady.
Sis. Nixon was a hard and dedicated worker. She was employed by Piccadilly Cafeteria. She started March 06, 1968 as a Preparation Cook. Then to Fry Cook, Butcher and was the Chef when she retired March 27, 2004. She enjoyed working around the house just as well. She was a very talented seamstress. Sis. Nixon loved to cook and bake. Becoming well known for her tea cakes and sweet potato pies. She even tried her hand at gardening.
On Sunday, June 27, 2021, Ruth's purpose was fulfilled. At 5:49 p.m. she entered eternal rest to be with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lessie Jones; her husband of 48+ years, Willard Nixon, Sr.; two daughters, Shirley Riley and Willard Ruth Williams.
She leaves a lifetime of loving memories to her devoted children: Lt. Col. James M. Nixon and Cynthia A. Jackson both of San Antonio, Texas; Willard Nixon, Jr and John P Nixon both of Houston, Texas, and Lesia N Phillips (Gregory) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Wille Mae Darby of Houma, Louisiana, Viola Scott (Douglas) of San Diego, California and her daughter from another mother, Connie B Jacobs, brothers - Mac Jones of Linwood, California and Ervin Thomas; 25 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; her best friend, Sis. Ella Mae Williams; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, her cousins, family and friends.
