IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samuel
Jones
February 8, 1943 – February 19, 2024
The Loving Life of Samuel Jerome Jones began on February 8, 1943, to the parents of Harriet and Wilfred Jones in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Samuel was the fifth child of nine children. Samuel was affectionately known as "Sam" or "Jerry" by his family and close friends. Sam was baptized and raised in the Catholic faith as a child and remained a devout and devoted Catholic throughout his life.
Growing up in Lake Charles, Sam attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. He received all of his sacraments and took great pride in serving the church. Sam was also a member of the choir at his church, Immaculate Heart of Mary where he took great pride and joy in his contributions to the chorale, as he practiced singing and recording himself to perfect his tone.
Upon graduating high school, Sam joined the United States Air Force and served in many parts of the world as a Communications Operator. Sam was proud to have served in the Air Force and would often talk about his military service time as he would entertain his family and friends with many stories of his travels abroad.
After his military service, Sam met his wife, Mary Louise, and was smitten. You could say it was love at first sight and they were married within a short time after. From this union, three children were born: Victor, Lori, and Jeremy. Lori, whom at a young age preceded her father in death, left fond memories to carryon. While both of his sons followed their father's footsteps and carryon a military legacy with Victor serving in the Air Force and Jeremy serving in the Marine Corps.
Education was very important to Sam; therefore, he always encouraged his children to excel in school. He set the example that 'You are never too old to stop learning". Sam returned to school in his 50's and graduated from Sowela Technical Institute in Lake Charles, Louisiana. As a result of his encouragement and example setting, both of Sam's sons went to college and are very successful men in the IT and Communications fields.
Sam was a talker who had a profound love of music and classic cars in which he had a vast collection of both. Sam was a true car enthusiast and could give you the specs on all the classics. He loved collecting parts for vehicles he envisioned, and he usually had or knew exactly where to find any part you may need. Sam loved music and taught himself how to play numerous instruments along with his singing. His music taste was impeccable and his collec-
tion of jazz is evidence of such.
Sam was guided home by the Lord on February 19, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Harriet Jones, three sisters: Edna Hardy, Rita May Jones, Mary Lee Baptiste and four brothers: Anthony Jones, Emmanuel Jones, Frederick Jones, and Michael Jones, and his daughter Lori.
Sam's legacy will live on through his wife, Mary Louise; his sons Jeremy (Delaina) and Victor (Jenna); his grandchildren, Katelyn and Dafydd; his brother Matthew Jones of Vista, CA., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends that adored/cherished him.
