It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shawna Paul Sezar. After a long battle with cancer she moved on to the final stage in life and departed on June 12, 2026 surrounded by her family and friends.
Shawna Paul Sezar was born on September 17, 1971 to Eddie Rogers Paul and Patricia Ann Williams Paul in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Shawna’s Christian journey began at an early age at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She later moved her membership to New Covenant Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jimmy Stevens. She faithfully and diligently worked in several ministries in the church until her health began to fail her.
Shawna was a 1989 graduate of Washington Marion High School. While at Washington Marion she was a member of the FHA Club and served as the president from 1988-1989. She attended Grambling State University for three years, but graduated from McNeese State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She worked as an Educator for 25 years. She taught Pre-K at Even Start in Arlington, Texas. She was a Kindergarten teacher at Combre and J.D. Clifton Elementary Schools. She received her Masters of Education from Lamar University and worked as a school Counselor at John F. Kennedy and Lagrange High School. She retired in 2025.
Shawna was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Joseph and Florine Williams, paternal grandparents, Cleveland and Elmina Paul, uncles Joseph and Russell Williams, aunts, Linda Clark and Gwendolyn Fontenot.
Her memories will be cherished by her mother, Patricia Paul (Joel Mouton) and father, Eddie (Doris) Paul. The joy of her life, her daughter Darian Denise Young and the greatest joy, her granddaughter, Charlotte Reign Young. Two sisters, Tiffani (Chrishon) Archield and Elmina Paul. Godparents, Harry Lee (Sheila) Williams and Angenette Collins and Mary Ann “Nanny Boo” Williams. A host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 in New Covenant of Faith Baptist Church. Cremation Services for Shawna have been entrusted to Combre Funeral Home.
