IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shelia Marie
Hopkins
April 21, 1961 – March 21, 2017
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27
Obituary
Shelia Marie Hopkins, 55, was born on April 21, 1961 in Lake Charles, LA. She was the third child born to the union of the late Irving Joseph Lewis and the late Evelyn Marie Dumas Lewis. She was baptized in the Catholic faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she also made her Sacraments of Reconciliation, The Eucharist, and Confirmation.
She attended Washington High School from 1975 to 1978, where she was a member of the band's flag squad. She transferred during her Senior year to W. O. Boston High School where she was a graduate of the Class of 1979. Shelia went on to attend Delta School of Business and Technology where she majored in Business.
In 1981, Shelia met and married Amos Hopkins, Sr. To that union, four children were born: Amos, Jr., Terron, Desiree, and Brandi. She then met her life partner, Michael Beasley, with whom she shared the final 25+ years of her life.
Shelia will always be remembered as a lady with the kindest of hearts. She would open her doors to anyone who needed a place to stay, or a home cooked meal. Her compassion for others was exceedingly abundant. She was a virtuous woman to her mate. She was a wonderful mother to her four children, a great caregiver to her parents while they were living; a loving and caring grandmother to her grandchildren; a nanny to most; a sister to her siblings; a mother figure to many, a sister-in-law, a mother-n-law, as well as a friend to everyone whom she encountered.
Shelia worked as an Event Coordinator at Isle of Capri Casino, but her passion was in caring for the elderly and those who were in need. She had over 20 years of experience in the health care profession. She worked in the medical field as a health care assistant, until she began to have some personal health challenges.
She always had a passion for caring for other people. She really enjoyed working with elderly people. On March 21, 2017, God decided that he needed another angel. He called Shelia by her name and took her by her hand. He led her to her Heavenly home.
She truly left a mark on all those she encountered. The ones she left behind will truly miss her smile, her laughter, her conversations, and her guiding advice, and most of all her physical presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Evelyn Lewis; one brother, Charles Lewis; one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Moss; one brother-in-law, Stevens R. Thomas; and one nephew, Ronald K. Lewis, Jr.
She leaves very special memories with her life partner, Michael Beasley; her two sons, Amos (B. J.) Hopkins, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA; Terron (Valentina) Hopkins of Thomasville, GA; two daughters, Desiree (Marcus Young) Hopkins of Lake Charles, LA; and Brandi Hopkins of Lake Charles, LA. She also leaves fond memories with her sister, Dr. Kathy Lewis-Thomas of Lake Charles, LA; three brothers, Horace Lewis, Sr. and Tony Lewis of Lake Charles, LA; and Ronald Lewis, Sr. of Bellflower, CA; five god-children, Nathan Syas, Dereck Carter, Irving Lewis, Andrew Lewis, and Meagan Beverly both of Lake Charles, LA; and one sister by love and law, Cindy Brown Lewis and two close family friends, Claudia Espree Lewis and Doryce Polk of Natchitoches, LA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
