His Life, His Legacy

Shelton Frank Semien was born January 05, 1943, to the union of the late Zim and Theresa Semien in Edgerly, LA. He attended and was a 1961 graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Lake Charles, La. He met and married his high school sweetheart, who became the love of his life, Louvenia Reed Semien, on January 2, 1965, and to this union five children were born.

As a young child, he dedicated his life to Christ and embarked on a lifelong journey of faith. Shelton was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was inspired by Father Lou to serve his church community, devoting over 45 years of service. His tireless efforts include organizing church bazaars and meticulously setting up the fairgrounds which helped create unforgettable memories and experiences. Shelton has been a member of the Knights of Saint Peter Claver Council 31 since 1982. Shelton's commitment to his faith was further exemplified through his vital role as a Eucharistic Minister. He prioritized attending church every Sunday, holiday, and holy day of obligation, ensuring his family attended as well.

During his working years, he was employed by the United States Postal Service and was the first Black Postal Clerk in Lake Charles, La. He served as a Postal Clerk and Union Steward until he retired in 2002. Upon retiring, he still managed to go out and work a few years as a Courier at Velocity Express as a Courier because he wanted to continue to provide for his loving family. All of his life he strived to ensure that his family had what they needed to be happy, healthy, and whole.

Shelton acted in many roles and wore many hats, but his most treasured role was being celebrated as an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and godfather that anyone could ever be blessed with. He embodied the true meaning of devotion and dedication as a faithful and loving husband, a profoundly inspiring father, and a friend whose unwavering support lifted all who knew him. The love he showed to his family was truly impeccable, and to describe it as anything less would be an absolute understatement.

Shelton was a baseball player, swimmer, and avid bowler. He was a member of the Round Robin Men's League and because of his impressive bowling skills, he earned the nickname "Anchorman", which led him to receive hundreds of trophies. He reveled in the beauty of the outdoors and developed a profound love for animals and nature while tending to and nurturing his farm animals. Everyone enjoyed visiting Uncle Toot's house to see the different animals on his farm which included bulls, cows, calves, chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep and a horse. Afterwards, you could take a refreshing dive in the pool. He found joy in swimming, fishing, exploring new destinations, staying informed through the news, and watching inspiring shows like Dr. Pol, and Tom and Jerry. He made the best Toast you could ever eat while lounging around savoring a warm cup of his expertly brewed coffee. His barbeque and boiled Crawfish were exceptional as well. The patience, care, and love that he poured into and shared with others were cherished.

Shelton was called home on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving children Two daughters Angela Semien (significant other Bradley Larry) and Cynthia Semien of Iowa, LA.
