Shirley Mae "Sue" Rolax Griffin was born March 8, 1934 to John David Rolax, Sr. and Lillian Lavigne
Rolax in Whiteville, Louisiana. She was the second to the oldest of six children. She was baptized at an early
age at Mount Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Willie L. Humphrey.
She married Denell Griffin and moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana where she united with the Mount
Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. D.J. Jones and the late Rev. Horace
C. Allison.
She was an active member serving as a member of the Gospel Choir, Women's Day Choir, Benevolence
Committee, Mission Board, Sunday School, Youth Group and a member and Chairlady of the Deaconess
Board. She loved her church immensely and would light up every time she saw her Pastor, Rev. Elmore
Garner.
On November 1, 2019, her Heavenly Father called His faithful servants name and she answered,
surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Denell Griffin Sr.; her parents, John and
Lillian Rolax; brothers, Joseph (Sara) Tatmon and Willie James Rolax; sister, Tressie (Clyde) Rolax Bazile;
nephew, Martin Keith Rolax; and niece, Freddie Rolax Taylor.
She leave to cherish her memories her son, Denell Griffin Jr. daughter, Monica L. Griffin;
granddaughter, Lacey L. Pullard, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana; brother, John (Shirley) Rolax Jr. of Beaumont,
Texas; sister, Willie (Randolph) Valyan of Lake Charles, Louisiana; aunt, Queen Easter Walls; sister-in-law,
Eliza Rolax of Lake Charles, Louisiana; a very dear friend and neighbor, Mary Guillory; and a host of nieces,
nephews, and others who loved "Gram".
