Obituary

Shirley Mae Theresa Rosette Mayo transitioned from November her earthly life on November 30, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She resided in Lake Charles for over 60 years.

One spring day, May 20, 1935 to be exact, the Lord blessed the late Aimee Collins and William Rosette, Sr. of Opelousas with a dear jewel, that they named Shirley Mae Theresa Rosette. Her mother died shortly thereafter her birth and she was reared by her father, William Rosette, Sr. and his wife Hester Green Rosette. At the tender age of sixteen, she was united with the love of her life, Gilbert Vernon Mayo, Sr. That union lasted for sixty-three (63) years until her death and was abundantly blessed with nine (9) children all who loved her affectionately.

As a child and young adult, she practiced the Baptist Faith and then converted to Catholicism. She was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church until her death. She was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary where she was a faithful servant. She was a member of the Drew Park Quilting Club under the guidance Patricia (Patsy) Reeder. All of her children, grandchildren, and some of her great grandchildren were blessed with a quilt from "Sugar Shirl" that was filled with love.

She leaves to cherish her memories as well as carry on her legacy of care and love are: her faithful husband of 63 years, Gilbert Mayo Sr., her two sons: William Mayo and Patrick Mayo of Lake Charles, LA, four daughters: Deborah Mayo Garriet (Larry Hawkins) and Constance Mayo of Lake Charles, Dianne Mayo and Latricia Mayo of Opelousas LA, one aunt, Sedonia Lacey; seven grandchildren: Madeline Garriet, Brian Keith (Khristina) Mayo, and Sheridan Mayo of Lake Charles, LA, Melissa (Kevin) Williams of Spring Texas, and Matthew(Teran) Garriet of Port Arthur TX with , Telemica Mayo and Gilbert Edwards of Opelousas, LA; ten great grandchildren; two sisters: Irma Mosley of Port Arthur TX and Vernita Rosette Chambers of Opelousas, LA; four brothers: William (Justine) Rosette, Jr., Herman Rosette, Sr., Lionel (Theresa) Rosette, and Cal (Patricia) Rosette all of Opelousas, LA; one brother-in-law: Donald (Georgiana)Mayo of Houston, TX; five sister-in-laws: Mary Mayo, Houston, TX, Shirley Robertson, Bea Ann Roberson, Linda Rosette Bertrand and host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Gilbert Mayo, Jr, and Adrian Christopher Mayo and infant daughter, Linda Gail Mayo her mother, her father; step mother; five sisters and three brothers, six brother-in-laws, and seven sister-in-laws.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Service date: December 5, 2014

Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Associate Pastor Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. on December 4, 2014 in Combre Funeral Home with Lady Auxiliary Services and Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
