On February 11, 2013 Theresa Veternell Lewis quietly went home to her Savior in her home. She was a native of Lake Charles. Theresa was born on August 21, 1929 to Julius Oscar Lewis and Emily Rious. Her siblings were four brothers; Butler Rious, Antoine and Joseph Williams and Charles Oscar Lewis and one sister, Ann Dixon. Theresa attended Sacred Heart Elementary and High School. She later attended McNeese State University and was a graduate of Epps and Annie Frank's Beauty Schools. She was a loyal and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Theresa "Vet" Day was the proud mother of six children; four boys and two girls.

She was very industrious and had many careers, a Cosmetologist by trade for over fifty years, a teacher at DeRidder Beauty School, a Certified Parliamentarian from McNeese for the State Beauticians, one of the founders of Fine Arts Beauticians,  long time President of Unique Beauticians of Lake Charles, and served for many years as Chairman of the Black Heritage Festival Style Show.

Theresa "Vet" Day was preceded in death by her husband; Rufus Day, brothers; Antoine and Joseph Williams and Butler Rious, one sister; Ann Dixon and one grandson; Darrell Gumms Cunningham. Left to carry on her legacy of life and love is a brother, Charles Oscar Lewis of    the Philippians, one Sister-in-law, Annie Mae Rious of Lake Charles, four sons; Leroy (Charmaine) Gumms of Los Angeles, CA, Larry Lewis (Jean) Gumms of San Francisco, CA, Lennard Johnson of Alaska, and Lynn Keith (Michelle) Allison of Los Angeles, CA. Two daughters; Linda Bennet and Letitia (Franz) Robinson of Lake Charles. Eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, five great great children and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 6PM – 9PM at Combre Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Monday, February 18 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
