Obituary

Mary Violet Theresa Honora Jones

Mary Violet Theresa Honora Jones was born October 19, 1935, in Opelousas, Louisiana to the union of Doris Thibodeaux and Thaddius R. Honora. She relocated to Lake Charles, Louisiana where she began a new chapter of her life. Sister Jones accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Theresa Honora entered holy matrimony on March 14, 1959, to Lynell Schexnayder. To this union two girls and three boys were born. Cathie, Tommie, Robert, Sandy and John Schecxnayder. John preceded his mother in death. She later entered holy matrimony on February 10, 1972, to James Earnest Jones, who accepted and loved not only her but all five of her children as his own. James preceded his wife in death. She was also preceded by her mother, Doris Thibodeaux Honora, father Thaddius R Honora, two sisters, Leocadia Fusilier 'Katy" and Minnie Honora Hill, two brother, Thaddius R. Honora Jr. and Earnest Honora and grandson, Tommie D "Spoonie" Schexnayder II.

Theresa H. Jones spent her early school years in Lake Charles but also received her Dietitian Certification at LSU in Baton Rouge. She worked as a cook at LaGrange Senior High School for several years before she began her career as a Dietitian at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, where she later retired. Some of the things she enjoyed doing in her younger years were fishing, hunting, and bowling. So much so, she belonged to a bowling league in Lake Charles and brought home many trophies. She also loved spending time with family and friends; you could never come to her house without eating or taking a package to go. At the age of 90 she would text scriptures, morning greetings, and farewells goodnight to about two hundred different friends and family members every day. Theresa Honora Jones was a remarkable Woman of Jehovah God.

Sister Jones began to study the bible with Fannie Foreman. She and her husband, Brother EJ Jones, were both baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on January 12, 1997.

Sister Jones was well known for her hospitality and zeal in the ministry. She used her time, energy, and resources freely to spread the good news and share truths from the bible to all who came to her home. Sister Jones was always ready to engage in telephone witnessing, letter writing, and even door to door ministry and bible studies when her health permitted. Everyone who contacted Sister Jones knew she had a daily scripture to read and discuss with them. If she happened to miss a day, they would often call or come by and ask that she read and discuss the scripture they missed. Sister Jones faithfully attended meetings and conventions and was noted for her beautiful hats. She was also known for having candy for the young ones and cracklins for the adults.

Her visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 9:00 A.M. with funeral services following at 11:00 A.M. in Kingdom Hall of The Jehovah's Witness located at 2551 Alma Drive Lake Charles, La. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of Combre Funeral Home
