Obituary

Therese (Gobert) Simien, 82, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away on August 19, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a testament to the boundless love and selflessness she shared with all who knew her. Therese was renowned for her generosity, always ready to do whatever she could for those in need.

Therese was born on August 24, 1941, in Mowata, Louisiana, to the late Davis and Loney (Dise) Gobert. She was one of eight children.

She was a devoted wife to the late Abraham Simien, and together, they raised three daughters: Jackie Simien, Monica Lavine, and Erika Simien.

Therese's life was a beacon of compassion and strength, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was the beloved matriarch and pillar of strength for her family and friends. To know her was to love her. She was a true angel on earth. She annihilated every single obstacle and challenge, no matter how daunting. She was the best of all of us, and the mark she left behind will never be matched. The memories she left behind are endless, from the exploding pancake balls to her famous saying, "Well yeah…." She was the heart of the family, whose wisdom and love guided us through every chapter of life. She was the voice you hear telling you to do the right thing. She welcomed everyone with open arms. If you needed it, wanted it, or could not find it, she made sure you got it! Her strength was our foundation, and her legacy is the thread that weaves us all together.

She leaves behind those who will cherish her memories forever: daughters Jackie Simien of Stafford, TX, Monica (Kevin) Lavine, and Erika Simien, both of Sulphur, LA; sister Brenda (John) Beilman; brother John (Demi) Gobert, special cousin and "Golden Girl" Louanna Durousseau, and "Sista" Debbie Gobert; godson, Kevin Simien, and the entire Lavine and Latour families; along with nieces and nephews and countless other relatives and friends. Also cherishing her memory are her sister-in-law, Majorie (Hayward) Labbe, and Brothers-in-law, Emerick (Brenda) Simien, Albert Simien and her beloved plant buddy and sister-in-law Mearline Simien.

She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Chris (Carolyn) Carroll II, Jeremy Carroll, Amanda (Jared) Guillory, Kevin Lavine II, Jason Lavine, Ashley Lavine (Jens), Katelyn Morgan, Maison Morgan, and Adrien Morgan. Six great-grandchildren: Chris Carroll III, Sophia Carroll, Lydia Guillory, Jared "JJ" Guillory Jr, Josiah Lavine, and Isabella Lavine. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to include Abby Rosamore, her "daughter from another mother," and Malcolm Simien, the "son she didn't have."

Therese is preceded in death by her sisters Ella Papillion, Eltra Leblanc, Ann Jeffreys, Betty Lawson, MaryAnn Gobert; godchildren Yomika Guillory and Tony Papillion; and friend and "Golden Girl" Geraldine Spain.

She will forever be our "Boo," deeply missed and fondly remembered for the countless lives she touched with her kindness and unwavering love. Her absence will leave an eternal and unfillable void.

"With my last breath, I love you…" Therese "Boo" Simien
