Obituary

Rev. Dr. Tony Lloyd Lewis was born on September 4, 1951 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. On Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 9:15 PM, our dear friend and brother went home to be with the Lord.

Tony accepted Christ at an early age. In 1975 he accepted his calling to the ministry at the Prosperity Baptist Church, Los Angeles, California under Dr. Lloyd C. Blue.

He was a graduate of W.O. Boston High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor''s degree and Master''s degree at the historic Bishop College in Dallas, Texas. While in Dallas, he was Minister of Christian Education under the leadership of the late Pastor, Dr. E. K. Bailey. He later completed his Doctorate of Divinity Degree studies at Pittsburgh Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1981.

He married Linda Jackson and to their union one daughter was born, Kimberly Josephine Lewis-Stidum. He later married Esther Lewis. He lived in Portland, Oregon for seven years, California for seventeen years and has lived in Lake Charles, LA. since 2006.

Dr. Lewis served as Senior Pastor of three congregations: The Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon; The Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Pomona, California and finally the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California. He is the author of many books, articles and sermons. He retired from Zion Hill M.B.C. due to health concerns and relocated to his native Louisiana and united with the First Presbyterian Church, where he joyfully served under Pastor Chandler Willis as one of the Adult Bible Teachers, when his health allowed. He also served as a director of One Weak Too Strong Ministries with his daughter.

He leaves to cherish his legacy, mother, Gloria Lewis Smith of Lake Charles; daughter, Kimberly Lewis (Reginald) Stidum of Houston, TX.; brother, Michael Todd (Tricia) Smith; half siblings; Donald Anderson, Kenny (Vicky) Kennerson, David Kennerson, Darrell Kennerson of Lake Charles, LA.; sisters, Mary Kennerson of Lake Charles, LA, Angelina Kennerson, and Deborah Kennerson of Lake Charles, LA., Tammy Kennerson of Atlanta, GA.; step-brother, Phillip Smith Jr., Donald Wayne Smith; aunts, Willie Mae Lewis and Genevie Lewis both of California; Godson, Jaylon E.J. Porter and host of adopted sons and daughters, nephews, nieces, extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Myron Brad Lewis and step-father, Phillip Smith Sr.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Service date: June 22, 2013

Funeral will be at 11 am Saturday, June 22, in First Presbyterian Church (1801 2nd Ave). Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 6-9pm Friday June 21, in the church, also from 8-11am Saturday June 22.
