Obituary

Verna Mae Howard Eggins was born on 4 February 1940, in Gold Dust, LA to the late Rose and Lloyd Howard. She was the oldest of 10 children. At an early age she learned the importance of hard work and virtuality while helping to take care of her siblings. Verna was educated in the Avoyelles Parish Public School System.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at an early age and joined Church at First Saint Joseph, in Gold Dust, LA under the Leadership of Reverend W.M. Humphrey. She always walked in the light of God's promise. She loved to cook and bake for all and rejoiced in seeing the looks on the faces of those that enjoyed her cooking. She was a virtuous woman. As the Bible has stated in 31 Psalms: 10-12, "Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need to spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life." She was a woman who cared deeply for her family and her husband. She shared love with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren until God took her home. Her love for family far outweighed anything in this world. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who stood out and stepped up for each  person she loved.

Verna Howard married Cleveland Eggins, III on 24 December 1958 and shared their love together for over 64 years until her passing. To this union, 6 children were born. Two have preceded her in death, Janice Marie Eggins and Baby Boy Eggins.

After moving and making Lake Charles her home in 1963, Verna joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend Stevens. She later joined Greater St. Mary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Dr. R.B. House until his death. She then moved her membership to St. John COGIC under the Leadership of Elder Fobbs; and later taking her final spiritual guidance on Earth to New Shiloh Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor Barry Thomas.

On  Sunday, 11 June 2023 at 11:54 a.m., at Harbor Hospice, Lake Charles, LA with her loving husband and children by her side Verna took her last breath and entered eternal rest. God received her into his care. A place where she will no longer be tired or in pain. Her spirit will be refreshed and will provide her energy to walk around Heaven and spend it with her beautiful daughter, son, mother, father, and family. The Lord said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over few things. I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of my Lord. You have fought a good fight, you have finished your course, you have kept the faith."
