Mr. Vincent Charles, Jr. died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the age of 78 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.He leaves to mourn his daughter, Maria Antoinette Charles, of Lake Charles, Louisiana and threesisters: Beulah Joubert of Lake Charles, Annie Mae Miller of Houston, Texas, and Ann LeBlancof Oakland, California; two sisters-in-law: Mae Tezeno of Oakland, California and Yvonne Frelowof San Francisco, California. He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Marie Charles; onedaughter, Judy Ann Charles; his parents, Vincent and Ola Charles; two brothers, Anthony Charles,Sr. and George Charles; and five sisters: Agnes Charles, Georgiana Perry, Mildred Mitchell,Audrey Hollier and Ora Williams.

Vincent graduated from Washington High School in 1956. While in high school he was a starathlete and the captain of the football team. He received a football scholarship to SouthernUniversity in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he attended for two years. He was in the UnitedStates Army. He helped to integrate the bowling teams in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He waspresident of the local chapter of the United States Bowling Congress, known as the Round RobinLeague, from 1956 to 2012. He later received accolades for his becoming a "300" bowler. Heworked for 20 years as a truck driver for Liquid Air, being the first Black route salesman. He laterworked for Players Casino, receiving the "Employee of the Year" award in 1994. In his third careerhe began driving for the Transit Mix (Cement) Company.

Vincent was a long time, dedicated member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where he wasan altar server as a young boy, a member of the Holy Name Society and attended mass until hishealth prevented him from doing so.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015. A rosary will be recited at Combre Funeral Home at 8:30 a.m. and the funeral mass will follow at 10:00a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
