Obituary

Retired Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Deputy, Watkins J. Landry, Jr., age 73, of Lake Charles, LA, unexpectedly passed away on April 16, 2021, but his larger-than-life persona and trademark tenacity will not be forgotten.

He was born on December 11, 1947, in Lake Charles, LA. He was the eldest son to the late Watkins J. Landry, Sr., and late Elizabeth Floyd Landry.

Affectionately known as "Dannyboy" by family and many friends, he was a life-long resident of Lake Charles, LA. He attended W.O. Boston High School where his athletic abilities shined on the football field as a wide-receiver and punter. He graduated from W.O. Boston High School in 1966 and thereafter attended t he University of Arkansas Pine Bluff in Pine Bluff, AR.

In 1974, Dannyboy became a driver for the Greyhound Lines, Inc. where he thoroughly enjoyed his travels to various destinations. Transpor ting passengers on the highways was the beginning of his love for traveling.

As Danny's life transitioned, he discovered a ravishing new soul, Roe Landry.  They fell in love and committed a lifelong journey together. As a family they loved the crazy times of "record spinning",  49er's football, Yankee baseball,  Golden State basketball and making memories that were filled with laughter.  An avid lover of anything sweet Oreos and Tootsie Rolls were always in his bag.

After the historically long Greyhound Strike in the 1980's, he began serving as a law enforcement officer with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office in 1991. He dedicated his entire career to protecting and serving his community, upholding the law, and mentoring countless i ndividuals in crisis. After serving on the force for 20 years, Dannyboy happily retired in 2011.

Dannyboy was a devoted father and husband to Roe.  He was a loyal man of peace who shared his kindness to all he encountered. He was a spiritual man who fervently studied the word of God, never forgetting to send up those special prayers and scriptures.  Vanity is fleeting, so he dedicated a good portion of his time maintaining his illustrio us physique and to many adventurous travels with his wife, The Davis Girls Crew and his vacation wife Lethia Brown. He  will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

Dannyboy is survived by his; wife, Roe Landry; his children, Chance J. Landry, Sheree Thierry (LJ), Tiffany Nora (Lance), Ashely Landry, Terrence Smith,  Kaicha Watkins (Marcus), and Donald J. Landry; his sisters, Joan Chavis (Darold) and Jessica Milligan (Clifton); brother, Michael Ceasar (Kena).; his godson, Daveed Holt; 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Watkins J. Landry, Sr.; his mother, Elizabeth Floyd Landry; his son, Markus Jude Landry; sisters, Glenda Landry, and Linda Barrington.
