Werlin Joseph Leday died on Feb. 27, 2016, in a local hospital.

Werlin Joseph Leday was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Chataignier, La., to the Late Fred and Edna Leday. He lived in Lake Charles, La., for most of his life. Werlin was united in marriage to the late Sayretha B. Leday for over 50 years. Their union was blessed with three children, Merlyn J. Leday Sr., Robert C. Leday and Thelma Jean Fontenot. Werlin Leday retired from Laborers Union Local 207 after 30 years as a supervisor/general foreman. He was a lover of fishing, hunting, gardening and camping.

Those carrying on his legacy of love is his daughter, Thelma Jean (the late Malcolm Fontenot Sr.) Fontenot of Lake Charles, La.; son, Robert C. (Jenny) Leday of El Paso, Texas; and daughter-inlaw, Patricia (the late Merlin Leday Sr.) Leday of Sulphur, La.; three brothers, Wilton Leday, Raymond Leday and Regis (Nina) Leday; four sisters, Rose Todd, Ruby (Ogden) Boullard, Georgia Norling and Shirley (Gene) Johnson-Blackmon; nine grandchildren, Merlyn J. (Chevonne) Leday Jr., Laticia Fontenot, Malcolm (Lacey) Fontenot, Kizzi (Brad) Fontenot, Michael J. Leday, Barbara Leday, Kristie (Jamie) Petty, Sylvia Leday and April (McKinsey) Thomas; 16 greatgrandchildren; and a host of other relatives, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sayretha Leday; parents, Fred and Edna Leday; son, Merlyn Leday Sr.; brother, Charlie Leday; sister, Genevieve Guillory-Sibling; son-in-law, Malcolm Fontenot Sr.; three brothersin-law, Austin Bellow, Henry Bellow and Felton Lemonia; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Leday and Ella Mae Leday.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Service date: March 5, 2016

Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2016, from 6 p.m.to 9 p.m. at Combre Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
