Whitney "June" Ackless, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012.He was born in Basile, LA on November 29, 1935 to the late Whitney Ackless, Sr. and Alceceila Celestine. He was preceded in death by his wife Lula Mae Ackless; two brothers:Gilbert (Joyce) and Edward (Avella) Ackless; and two sisters: LaVince (Lawrence) Bennett and Laura Bell Carter.He was a retired masonry worker and member of the Local Union 209 for over 25 years. He was employed at Children's Playworld & Preschool as a Foster Grandparent for 10 years. He loved the children and enjoyed interacting with them on a daily basis. He was a faithful and active member of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church for 35 years until his health would not allow him. Some of the ministries he was involved in and offices he held under the leadership of the late Pastor Hearnest Arvie were Chairman of the Deacon Board, Male Chorus member, Sunday School Ministry, Prayer Meeting and Bible Study.He leaves to celebrate and cherish his memories: one sister: Barbara "Bobbie Lee" Bennett of Westlake, LA; one step-daughter: Joyce Ann Landor of Lake Charles, LA; three grandchildren: James Landor, Jr., Antoinette and Bryon Landor; two great-grandchildren: Terica and Jamie Landor; one uncle; a special friend: Ella Southhall of Elton, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Funeral service will be Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church. The Rev. Arthur Cullivan will officiate. Burial will be at Combre Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home
