IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Eugene
Lonon
August 3, 1959 – December 1, 2023
In loving memory of William "Man" Eugene Lonon, who passed away on December 1, 2023. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, godfather, uncle, great uncle, Air Force wingman companion, cousin, friend and mentor and will be remembered for his gift to bring joy to anyone who has crossed his path or had the opportunity to get to know him. William was always stern yet loving and always put others' needs before his own for the sake of joy and peace.
William was born the second youngest of five to Willie Mae Lonon and Richard Allen on August 3, 1959, in Washington, DC. William, even as a child, had always been an outgoing person. He loved being social and always had a big smile on his face. William also had a quick wit and sharp mind. He pushed himself academically by simultaneously attending and graduating from McKinley High School and Seth L. Phelps Vocational High School. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled at American University. Four years later, he joined the United States Air Force and completed a plethora of trainings as well as earned a Good Conduct Medal, an Outstanding Unit Award and multiple ribbons. William received an honorable discharge almost six years later, after finishing a tour in Zweibruken, Germany and earning the distinguished rank of Sergeant.
William left an everlasting impression on everyone he met. Only William could turn a fender bender with a random neighbor into a lifelong friendship filled with laughter and happiness. That's exactly how he met one of his best friends, John Brown. His gregarious personality filled every room he walked into. He met another one of his best friends, Marcus Page, during his time working as an electrician for over twenty years before retiring in 2005. His genuine spirit resonated with others in a way that can only be described as a warm hug. He had a gift for making someone he met five minutes ago feel like they were friends for years. William was also selfless, helping everyone he could in need, even if he was going through a precarious time.
William was a culinary master, a meticulous extrovert and an avid collector of music (he was fondest of Jazz but also championed other genres). His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. His proudest achievement was his four children. William also had a strong faith in God. He was a member of New Faith Missionary Church for several years. William will forever be remembered and beloved to everyone who had the honor and privilege to know him.
William was predeceased by his brothers Otis Leroy and Richard and sister Patricia. He is survived by his benevolent wife, Melva J. Lonon, his children Brylan, Teonna, Brittani and Dorian, his grandchildren Auryelle, Zaevion and Zackariah, his sister KaTrina, his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. May God bless him in a new world beyond us that we do not see by sight, but know in spirit and faith.
