Obituary

In Beloved Memory, of a virtuous man of God, loving husband, father, father-in-law,
grandfather and friend.

Willie Lloyd Johnson, Jr. was born on Tuesday, August 19, 1947, to the late Willie and
Carrie (Granger) Johnson in Lake Charles, LA.

After graduating from W.O. Boston High School in 1967, he attended McNeese State
University and was initiated as a charter member into the Epsilon Phi Chapter of
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated in November 1969. The chapter was the first
black Greek-lettered fraternity on campus and the first Louisiana chapter of the
fraternity to break color barriers at a predominately white institution of higher learning.

A talented musician and singer, Willie, spent his young adult years touring with bands
across the southern United States.

As a life-long resident of Lake Charles Willie always found ways to give back to his
community of southwest Louisiana. He was an active member of Sacred Heart of
Jesus Catholic Church, serving as a founding member of the male chorus and its
direction for over 25-years. He was in charge of meal preparation for Sacred Heart's
annual parish fair. He was also well-known within the community for calling Bingo
games at church and C.C.OA

Willie became a member of the Lake Charles (LA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi
and served on many committees within the fraternity. He also received the "Kappa Man
of the Year Award." Willie was a 50-year member of the fraternity and loved by all of
his "Brothers in the Bond."

Willie retired from ConocoPhillips66 after a decorated career that included a 20-year
stint as a core member of the Fire Brigade. Later in life, he spent much of his time as
the lead singer and trombone player of the. R&B band, "Members Only."

Known by many names - Mr. J, Bro Willie, Brother Johnson, Dad, Grandpa and Papa
- he was best known as a man of sincere faith and loyalty; navigating through life's
journey with humility and a big heart.

On the morning of Saturday, September 19, 2020, Willie went home to the Lord
wrapped in prayers from his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Bernice;
his children, Barbara, Michael, Sonja, Tonya, Alvin Jr., Byron Sr., and KaRhonda;
sixteen grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Carrie Johnson; and one brother,
Larry.
