Yancy Harry Ellis was born March 10, 1921 in Lake Charles, LA to Clayborn and Lillie Williams Ellis. He was the fifth born of 10 children.
He was a former member of Christian Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of Dr. W. C. Clark. He was a devoted servant and faithful in the Male Chorus, Sanctuary Choir and served on the Board of Directors.
Bro Yancy Ellis later united with the Evergreen Baptist Church family under the leadership of Rev. Robert Campbell, Jr., where he was a faithful choir member. He also was a member of the Lake Charles Mass Choir, Voices of Zion and the Celestial Voices of Praise. He served his church until health challenges prevented him physically from serving, but spiritually he was there.
He served in the United States Army where his tour of duty was World War II.
Bro. Ellis was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Mary Horton and to this union were two daughters, Tommie Marie and Cynthia Fay.
Yancy worked for years for Micelle Packing House and Swift Packing House.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Horton Ellis; three brothers and five sisters.
Brother Ellis will be missed dearly by his daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren family members and the many friends he touched.
He leaves to cherish precious memories, his daughters and son-in-laws, Tommie Marie (Robert) Shelby of Lake Charles, La, and Cynthia Fay (Kenneth) Jones of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Robert Yancy Shelby of Indianapolis, IN, Roman Michael Shelby of Pensacola, FL, Kennethia Nicole and Kendrix Adam Jones of Houston, TX; one great-grandson, Zion Lee Ashford of Houston, TX; one brother, Leon "Jim" Ellis of Lake Charles, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
